I am uncertain of Canada. I live here, I grew up here, but I think I know how my ancestors must have felt as strangers in this wild place. Now we are a people of the cities, and we talk of being in touch with nature, but for most of our history nature has been the enemy. We once hid from the wolves of the forest and prayed that the kraken from the deep would take no interest in us as we skimmed the surface of the world.
