I’ve implemented the footnotes I always wanted. They’re not at the foot any more: instead, they appear in the right margin (except when printing, in which case they are down at the bottom where they belong). My work on web annotation revealed that this really isn’t that hard to do1. There’s a small glitch with the alignment of the number in the margin under some conditions, but it’s still far superior and a natural for the Web2.
I think notes are the ideal way to annotate changes to existing blog entries. They keep the main text clear and current for the majority of visitors unconcerned with updates; notes in the margins explain changes for those who do care.
